Happy Valentine's Day

If no one got you flowers...and sweets to the sweet...then these are for you!

Happy Valentine's Day

cupcake treats

These were at a reception for couples at a special Anniversary Mass held last Saturday at our Cathedral. I was there to capture candid photos of the attendees and the Bishop.

Valentine's Day is a bit hard for me. I don't usually get anything on Valentine's from my spouse or ex...and they have never wanted anything from me, and never looked at any Valentine's cards or treats I bought. So, I am relieved when it's over and I can stop feeling anxious about it! I brought a bag of my rosaries into the church office and gave them out to the workers and other volunteers, and that was so fun because they graciously made it fun by their excitement! The best part of today!

I have a buffet-line tip for you! There was no place to rest a plate at the gathering for the special Mass, and the pretty paper plates were the s-l-i-p-p-e-r-y kind, so many treats were ending up on the floor. Solution: Use a cup, if they have the big kind! Layer the treats in like a trifle and put a fork in there, too! Fish the treats out as desired. Yes, my waistline will attest to the fact that I know all kinds of tips and tricks for foods!

Today is practically a spring day! Now, if it will just stay this way! My tulips are getting bigger and bigger.

Kind regards and hopes that you are having a good day,

Holly, The Olde Dame

  1. We dont celebrate Valentine's Day and I dont mind it. Love the pics of the sweets. I did make a cake on Saturday, so will be eating a piece of that tonight. Great tip on using the cup for sweets too. Will have to remember that one. wink wink. Janice

  2. We exchange cards at this point. I worked for a florist in the 90s and by the time I got home on Valentines I was exhausted and did not want to look at another flower.

  3. Those desserts look Yummy. There's just something about chocolate cupcakes and frosting with sprinkles. That was nice of you to bring a bag of Rosaries to your church office. I'm sure the workers loved that.

I hope you are enjoying this special day of love.

  4. We usually just exchange cards, and have even been known to go to the store and pick out a card and show it to each other and put it back on the rack! LOL. But the Dollar Tree has such nice cards for a $1.00 or even 50 cents, we can afford to give each other cards now! LOL. I am glad that you had a special celebration at church and so many delicious goodies! My goodness, those look so good!! And your gifts of the rosaries for the staff sounds so very special. I can imagine everyone really loved those. What a very thoughtful thing to do. Please go read what I just finished posting...the scriptures at the end are a special "love song" from our very best "Valentine" ever. (((hugs))) to you my dear friend.

  5. Ahhh, we do live parallel lives in yet another way. No Valentine's Day acknowledged here either except in my imagination and memories. ~Robin~

  6. Except for you, I would not have stopped to consider neither daughter called to wish me a happy day. But, the same as ever...on to tomorrow.

  7. We don't do anything for Valentines day although I like to do a bit of decorating. I'm probably the only one that even notices it and I can see the day coming when I won't bother. BUT Feb 14 is one of my sons birthday and we have a little celebration for that. By coincidence this son's daughter (my granddaughter C), her birthday is on St Patrick's day.

  8. Thank you! Please may I have two from the first tray? A plate of cookies is always nice just in case the grands stop in.

  9. What wonderful treats you gave us for Valentine's Day. I think passing out hand made rosaries turned out to be much better than any card. Hope your day was pleasing because it sounds special and probably was for a few people whose lives you touched, dear Holly.

  10. I don't decorate for Valentine nor do we exchange card or gifts but I made a batch of heart cookies with sprinkles for sweet tooth husband.

I eat very little sweets but those treys of sweets looks beautiful. I'd probably would scrape the icing off, though.

I think that you gave the best Valentine of all, your rosaries. Do you make your own rosaries? I'm asking because I make my own although, I haven't made any this winter as I've been busy with Zoom prayer groups.

    Take care, hugs...

  11. We never make a big deal out of holidays so I'm usually glad when they are over too. I saw a florist vehicle drive by yesterday so someone on my street got flowers! Anyway...life goes on and it is all good! You are a sweetheart to think of others! HUGS!!!

  12. the cup is a great idea, and would not have thought of it. it caused me to remember the breakfast I had once when traveling. it was grits, eggs, bacon in a cup with a spoon. yum. the last valentine i bought was when my 57 year old son was still in grade school. I am like most men with all holidays unlike my mother who made a big todo over all holidays and was upset if she did not get something from someone. we all knew that and did make sure she got something. daddy was like me, but I could call long distance and push him into getting something for her.

  13. I know I read this, and wrote a comment (I guess I left without clicking publish) - or maybe I dreamed it all. 😉

Around our house valentine's day is just another day. In other words, we do nothing. I didn't even bring out decorations. Yummy looking cupcakes.
